• Arithmology — The theoretical or philosophical study of numbers and the religious, mystical, or occult properties attributed to them, beyond their purely mathematical calculating value. In the history of science, the term often describes Pythagorean or Kabbalistic esoteric systems that interpreted the universe through a sacred numerical structure, but it can also denote an archaic branch dealing with the systematic classification of names and numerical concepts.
