#engineering terms
- Supply — The act of feeding or supplying and its result; the structural process of providing food, fuel, energy, or raw materials needed for an organism or technical system to function. From a grammatical point of view, it also represents the plural form (masculine/feminine) of the adjective alimentar.
- Necked — Provided with a neck, groove, or structural recess; a technical part, profile, or mechanical element machined through cutting or die-stamping to feature a localized narrowing. This geometric detail is specifically engineered to permit precise mating with other subassemblies, to guide moving parts, or to ensure an optimal zone for controlled fracturing under predefined forces.
- Explosion-proof — Preventing, hindering, or resisting deflagrations and explosions; structurally designed to isolate sparks, flames, or high temperatures inside an enclosure, thereby preventing the ignition of a potentially explosive atmosphere in the surrounding environment. It is a mandatory characteristic for electrical and lighting equipment used in hazardous industrial environments, such as refineries or coal mines.
- Spacer — An intermediate fastening part, metal spacer, or structural bushing used to maintain a constant, strictly determined distance between two elements, plates, or components of a gear mechanism or construction framework. This rigid component prevents mechanical deformations under tightening forces.
- Arched — Having undergone the process of arciuire; an object, construction element, or material that features an intentionally curved, bent, convex, or arched shape. In a structural sense, it describes a component in a state of constant elastic tension or an architectural element such as a vault or arch that distributes load weight toward the supporting pillars.
- Bending device — A person or specialized mechanical device that performs the bending or shaping of materials into an arc; a structural element or tool that exerts an elastic tension force to bend a mechanical or industrial component. As an adjective, it describes a factor, force, or mechanism that has the property or capacity to curve or impart a curved trajectory or concave/convex shape to a flexible body.
- Self-cleaning — The act of self-cleaning and its result; a technological feature, automated cycle, or structural ecological process through which an appliance, filter, or natural medium eliminates its accumulated residues and impurities on its own. This property optimizes efficiency, prevents blockages, and extends the lifespan of systems.
- Self-triggering — The act of self-triggering and its result; an automated or mechanical process through which a system, device, weapon, or software program activates autonomously, as a result of detecting an external stimulus or meeting an internal logical condition, without external manual intervention. This structural mechanism is vital for the operation of safety systems, sensors, and cameras.
- Self-triggered — Having triggered, started, or activated on its own, automatically and independently, without the manual or direct intervention of an external operator. The term describes the structural state of a mechanism, algorithm, or electrical circuit that went into operation upon receiving a predefined impulse or following an anomaly.
