#endonym

• To self-name — To autonomously assign or establish one's own name, designation, or official title, without the intervention or enforcement of an external factor. In anthropology and sociology, it refers to the action of a human community or ethnic group choosing its own ethnonym (endonym), whereas in computer science it describes the ability of a script, process, or file to dynamically modify its structural name during execution.
• Self-naming — The act of self-naming and its result; a name, title, or designation that a community, ethnic group, organization, or computer system assigns to itself in a sovereign and autonomous manner. In ethnography, it represents the endonym borne by a people in their own language, as opposed to the exonym used by outsiders.
• Self-named — Having assigned to oneself a certain name, title, or official quality, without a formal validation from an external authority or general public recognition. In anthropology, it describes an ethnic group or community that uses its own ethnonym (endonym) created within its structural culture.
• Autonym — The name that a linguistic, ethnic, or cultural community assigns to itself in its own language, as opposed to an exonym (the name given by outsiders); a word used self-referentially to designate its own structural entity. In linguistics, it also describes the use of a term to represent itself from a formal standpoint, rather than to denote the real-world object or concept it typically signifies.
