#eight-thousander
- Annapurna — A major mountain massif situated in the Himalayas of Nepal, culminating in the peak Annapurna I, the first eight-thousander on Earth ever climbed by humans (in 1950, by a French expedition). In a Hindu cultural context, the name denotes the Goddess of Food and Abundance, a protective manifestation of the deity Parvati, the massif being globally recognized for both its overwhelming alpine landscapes and its extreme level of danger and mortality among mountaineers.
