#dictionary lexicon
- Bacteriaceae — A designation assigned in historical biological classification systems to a vast family of schizomycetous (unicellular) bacteria, characterized by rigid rod-shaped, non-spore-forming, and Gram-negative cells. In a historical structural taxonomic sense, these microbes were studied within botany under a systematic framework similar to lower plants, describing foundational genera that have now been redistributed according to modern genetic phylogeny.
