• Amphimacer — A trisyllabic metrical foot used in classical ancient metrics (Greek and Latin), structurally consisting of one short (or unstressed) syllable positioned between two long (or stressed) syllables. Graphically, this poetic rhythm is represented by the scheme ( ̄ ̆ ̄ ). In modern literary terminology, it is also known as a cretic foot.
