#courtyard
- Atrium — An unadapted form or architectural neologism often used as a variant for 'atriu'; the central open space of an ancient Roman house (domus), surrounded by rooms, having a central basin (impluvium) for collecting rainwater. In contemporary structural design, it describes a glass-covered interior courtyard located at the center of hotel complexes, office buildings, or large museums.
- Courtyard — A regional and archaic term used in the dialects of Banat and Western Transylvania to designate a courtyard, a yard, an enclosure, or a homestead backyard. The word originates via Ottoman filtering from Ancient Greek (aulē), reflecting the traditional spatial organization around rural houses where animals were sheltered and daily domestic activities took place; exceptionally and contextually, it could also describe a fenced perimeter such as a village cemetery.
