#continent
- America — An extensive landmass in the Western Hemisphere, bounded by the Atlantic and Pacific Oceans, structurally divided into three major geographical regions: North America, Central America, and South America. In current geopolitical and colloquial usage, the term is frequently employed to designate the United States of America (USA), representing a global superpower with a dominant cultural, economic, military, and technological impact worldwide.
- Antarctica — The southernmost continent on Earth, situated almost entirely south of the Antarctic Circle and surrounded by the Southern Ocean. It is the coldest, driest, and windiest continent, covered over 98% by a massive ice sheet that stores most of the planet's fresh water reserves. It has no permanent human population and is governed internationally by the Antarctic Treaty for exclusively peaceful and scientific purposes.
- Antarctica — An alternative geographical designation used in the Romanian language for the continent of Antarctica, denoting the continental landmass situated in the southern polar region. While modern scientific language prefers 'Antarctica', this form is often preserved in cartographic, popular science, or older geographical literature to describe the actual landmass beneath the ice sheet.
- Anteclise — A major regional tectonic structure characterized by a slow and continuous upwarping or lifting of the crystalline basement of a continental platform. The sedimentary cover overlying it is typically thin, displaying large stratigraphic gaps due to prolonged erosion, being the opposite structure of a syneclise.
- Asia — The largest continent on Earth by both land area and population, located predominantly in the Northern and Eastern Hemispheres, bounded by the Arctic Ocean, the Pacific Ocean, the Indian Ocean, and the Ural Mountains which structurally separate it from Europe. This geographic macro-space houses some of humanity's oldest civilizations, a delicate ecosystem diversity, and a massive economic complexity, defining global geopolitical dynamics.
- Australia — A sovereign country and continent located in the Southern Hemisphere, comprising the mainland of the Australian continent, the island of Tasmania, and numerous smaller islands. It is the world's largest country by area without land borders, with Canberra as its capital.
- Asia — An early graphic form, geographical archaism, or historically tolerated spelling variant in old Romanian manuscripts for the proper noun 'Asia', the Earth's largest and most populous continent. In administrative texts, Cyrillic maps, and chronicles from the 18th and 19th centuries, the term served as a structural spatial localization indicator for Eastern empires and regions, later replaced in academic use by the standardized modern spelling.
