• Agathosma — A genus of small to medium-sized evergreen shrubs in the family Rutaceae, endemic to the Mediterranean-climate regions of South Africa, particularly the Western Cape province. These shrubs are highly recognized for their ericoid, aromatic leaves heavily dotted with oil glands that release a strong, pleasant, or medicinal scent when crushed, holding substantial ecological importance within the fynbos ecosystem alongside unique ornamental and therapeutic values.
• Agathosma ciliata — A specific species of dwarf aromatic shrub within the genus Agathosma, structurally distinguished by its small, lanceolate leaves with margins fringed with fine, stiff hairs (cilia). This plant produces dense clusters of white or pale pink flowers and is valued both for its ornamental appeal in water-wise rock gardens and for the unique phytochemical compounds extracted from its foliar glands.
• Agathosma hirta — A species of dwarf aromatic shrub within the genus Agathosma, family Rutaceae, native to the Cape Region of South Africa. This plant is structurally characterized by stems and leaves densely covered with long, coarse, or shaggy hairs (hirsute/hairy), an efficient evolutionary adaptation for retaining atmospheric moisture in arid climates, producing small flowers grouped in terminal clusters.
• Agathosma imbricata — A specific shrub species within the genus Agathosma, characterized by small, rigid leaves arranged very densely along the stems and partially overlapping one another like roof tiles (imbricate arrangement). This compact foliar structure significantly reduces water loss through transpiration, allowing the plant to survive in exposed rocky habitats within the South African fynbos ecosystem.
