- Amygdala — An ovoid anatomical formation consisting of lymphoid tissue or nerve nuclei. In general anatomy, it most frequently refers to the palatine tonsils, located in the oropharynx, serving as a protective immune barrier. In neuroanatomy, the amygdala (amygdaloid body) represents a key structure of the cerebral limbic system, located in the temporal lobe, essential for processing emotions, such as fear, and for storing emotional memories.
- Amygdaloid — Resembling an almond in shape; ovoid and slightly flattened. In neuroanatomy, it describes the amigdaloid body (or cerebral amygdala), a deep nuclear structure essential for emotional processing. In mineralogy, it refers to the texture of a volcanic rock whose vesicles have been subsequently filled with secondary minerals, forming oval nodules.
