• Bacterivorous — Feeding exclusively or predominantly on bacteria; a microscopic organism, protozoan, nematode, or lower invertebrate that consumes prokaryotic cells as its primary source of energy and nutrients. Ecologically, bacterivorous organisms play a fundamental role in soil and aquatic food webs, controlling the size of microbial populations and accelerating the recycling of mineral nutrients.
