#bacteriuria
- Bacilluria — The pathological presence of bacilli in the urine, detectable through microscopic analysis or bacteriological cultures (urine culture). This structural phenomenon usually indicates an active urinary tract infection, such as pyelonephritis or, in specific and severe cases, uro-genital tuberculosis caused by the elimination of Mycobacterium tuberculosis through the renal pathways.
- Bacteriuria — The presence of bacteria in freshly voided urine, confirmed and quantified through a urine culture test. Clinically, bacteriuria can be asymptomatic (frequent in pregnant women or the elderly, without presenting an inflammatory presentation) or symptomatic, in which case it represents a direct biological indicator of an active urinary tract infection (UTI).
