#bacteriome
- Bacteriocyte — A specialized cell present within the body of certain insects or invertebrates (such as aphids or cockroaches), strictly destined to house endosymbiotic bacteria transmitted heritably. Physiologically, the bacteriocyte ensures a controlled metabolic environment where bacteria supply the host with essential nutrients, like amino acids, which the host cannot synthesize on its own.
- Bacteriometry — A method or body of laboratory techniques utilized for counting, measuring dimensions, or determining the density of bacterial colonies within a given volume of a liquid, solid, or gaseous sample. Biochemically and industrially, bacteriometry includes direct methods (microscopic or culture plate counting) and indirect methods (nephelometry, turbidimetry, or flow cytometry) necessary for quality control.
