• Extorcated — Regarding people or entities: subjected to an outrage, deeply insulted, humiliated, harassed, or extorted by an oppressive authority. Regarding goods or sums: obtained abusively, through plunder, violence, or illegal tax impositions during the Ottoman or Phanariot administration.
• Petty harassment — An archaic diminutive form or rare regional variant of 'avanie'; a minor insult, a petty harassment, or a small but annoying injustice committed by someone. In certain ancient dialects, the term could also describe a small arbitrary tax or an unexpected extraction imposed by bailiffs.
