- Upbeat — A secondary and less frequent orthographic variant of the term 'auftakt'. This neologism of German origin is used in music theory to designate an unaccented note or group of notes preceding the first complete bar of a piece; an anacrusis. In performing arts and project management, it is used metaphorically to describe an introductory event.
