- Ascogenesis — The biological process of formation and development of asci inside the fruiting bodies of ascomycete fungi. This complex structural stage succeeds plasmogamy and involves the growth of ascogenous hyphae, conjugate nuclear division, crozier formation, karyogamy, and subsequent meiotic and mitotic divisions that lead to the final appearance of ascospores.
