#arthria

• Barely / Scarcely — An adverb with a restrictive or temporal meaning, indicating an action performed with great effort, difficulty, to a minimal degree, or at an immediate prior moment. In neuropsychological and speech therapy assessments, the term is used clinically as a qualitative marker in observation files to describe the severe limitations of patients with aphasia, dyspnea, or motor trauma (e.g., patients who can barely pronounce simple words or can scarcely maintain their balance).
• Anarthria — An extreme clinical form of dysarthria, characterized by the complete loss of the ability to articulate words and pronounce speech sounds, resulting from a severe lesion of the central or peripheral nervous system (such as strokes, head traumas, or neurodegenerative diseases). In neurological semiology, this structural disorder exclusively affects the motor function of the muscles involved in phonation, while language comprehension and writing capabilities remain intact.
• Arthria — The normal physiological capacity to articulate speech sounds clearly, distinctly, and correctly through the coordination of the vocal apparatus organs (tongue, lips, palate, vocal cords). In speech therapy and phonetics, the term represents the opposite of anarthria or dysarthria, defining the structural correctness of the mechanical word pronunciation process.
