• Arpalik — A historical and archaic Ottoman term denoting a special tax, fief, or allowance granted to pashas or high officials for horse fodder (barley/oats) or as a maintenance pension. In the Romanian Principalities, it circulated during the Phanariot era as a graphic variant of 'arpalîc'.
