- Quicksilver — The popular, traditional, or mythological name utilized in the Romanian cultural space for the chemical element mercury (Hg); a heavy, silvery metallic liquid that is extremely mobile at room temperature. In an ethnographic and folkloric sense, argint-viu held a massive dual presence, being used empirically as a hazardous therapeutic remedy or viewed as a magical instrument in folk incantations to reverse curses; figuratively, it describes a person (especially a child) who is extremely restless, dynamic, full of energy, and impossible to keep still.
