#arctomys
- Arctomys — An archaic scientific name or historical taxonomic synonym previously used for the genus Marmota (marmots), particularly within 18th and 19th-century biological classification systems. Structurally originating from the Greek language, the term literally translates to 'bear-mouse', reflecting how early naturalists perceived the robust physical appearance and hibernating behavior of these mountain rodents.
