- Archipenko — The surname of the celebrated Ukrainian-American avant-garde sculptor, graphic artist, and inventor Aleksandr Archipenko (1887–1964), considered one of the pioneers of Cubism in sculpture. He revolutionized modern art by introducing elements of negative space (voids and concavities as active structural elements) and by creating sculpto-painting, an experimental artistic genre that structurally blends three-dimensional forms with pictorial polychromy.
