#araeostyle

• Araeostyle — A type of colonnade or ancient architectural style where the distance between columns (intercolumniation) is very wide, structurally exceeding four column diameters. In a classical-constructive sense theorized by Vitruvius, the araeostyle required the use of wooden tie-beams (architraves) instead of stone ones to prevent structural collapse due to the wide span, being characteristic of temples of the Tuscan order.
