#appendicectomy

• Appendectomy — An emergency or scheduled surgical intervention consisting of the complete excision of the inflamed or infected vermiform appendix. This classic procedure can be performed via open approach (laparotomy) or through minimally invasive techniques (laparoscopy), being the standard treatment for acute appendicitis.
• Appendectomy — A less frequent graphic and phonetic variant of the standard term 'apendicectomie' (appendectomy); the surgical intervention involving the excision of the vermiform appendix. Although etymologically correct in certain languages, the expanded form is preferred in academic Romanian.
