#anthraco

• Anthracotherium — An extinct genus of hippopotamus-like artiodactyl ungulates within the family Anthracotheriidae, that lived during the Oligocene and Miocene epochs across Eurasia and Africa, adapted to a semi-aquatic lifestyle.
• Anthraco — A neologic combining form (pseudoprefix) utilized as a structural lexical base in the formation of technical and scientific terms, meaning 'coal', 'pitch-black', or 'referring to anthracite or anthrax'. In highly isolated or commercial cases, it can function as an independent neuter noun designating a material, a pigment, or a texture that mimics the chromatic and structural density of superior coal in industrial painting or finishing processes.
• Anthracoid — Resembling coal, possessing the appearance, color, or structure of a coal pustule (anthrax) or displaying the exterior physical characteristics of anthracite. In a clinical medical sense, it describes a cutaneous lesion, a black ulceration, or a severe dermatological reaction that, through its geometric configuration and central necrotic hue, partially mimics the structural evolution of a pathogenic anthrax infection without being directly caused by that specific bacillus.
• Anthracolitic — Belonging to, referring to, or specific to anthracolite or the geological period of formation of massive superior coal deposits combined with calcareous structures; a sedimentary rock or crystalline formation characterized by intercalations of calcium carbonate and organic fossil inclusions rich in fixed carbon. In a stratigraphic sense, it describes structural elements or petrographic layers that preserve physical and chemical properties from the Paleozoic era.
• Anthracosilicosis — A chronic and irreversible lung disease (pneumoconiosis) specific to coal miners, caused by the simultaneous and prolonged inhalation of coal dust and silicon dioxide (free quartz); a condition structurally characterized by the sclerosis of lung tissue, appearance of dense fibrous nodules, and destruction of alveoli. This severe pathology causes serious impairment of respiratory function, chronic coughing, marked dyspnea, and a high predisposition to cardiac complications or tuberculous infections.
• Anthracotherapy — A therapeutic method or traditional medical treatment based on the utilization of standardized extracts from plants rich in anthracenic derivatives and glycosides (such as buckthorn or senna) for regulating intestinal transit; it can also describe the controlled clinical use of activated charcoal in cases of severe poisoning. This structural physiological process stimulates colon motility and reduces fluid absorption, being applied strictly according to medical schedules to prevent electrolyte imbalances.
• Anthracothere — A fossil ungulate mammal belonging to the family Anthracotheriidae, structurally related to modern hippopotamuses and pigs, which lived during the Eocene and Oligocene epochs, whose skeletal remains have been frequently discovered within geological layers rich in lignite and fossil coal. This large-bodied animal possessed a specific bunodont dentition and short limbs adapted to aquatic or swampy environments, being an essential stratigraphic benchmark for dating carboniferous deposits.
• Anthracosis — A chronic respiratory lung disease belonging to the pneumoconiosis category, caused by the prolonged inhalation and accumulation of fine coal dust particles within the lung tissue. This occupational disease, common among miners, causes black pigmentation of the lungs, impaired alveolar elasticity, and can progress to progressive pulmonary fibrosis.
• Anthracosaur — A generic term for large fossil amphibians with transitional characteristics between amphibians and reptiles, which lived during the Paleozoic era, particularly during the Carboniferous and Permian periods. These primitive tetrapods were top predators in swamp ecosystems, featuring massive skulls, sharp labyrinthodont teeth, and a lifestyle adapted to both deep aquatic environments and early terrestrial movement.
