- Awry — A regional or archaic phonetic variant, attested in certain popular dialects, for the word 'anapoda'; wrongly, conversely, topsy-turvy, poorly, contrary to logic or the natural order. Used as an invariable adjective, it describes a cranky thing, a twisted situation, a bizarre behavior, or a strange and difficult person who always acts against the unwritten rules of the community.
