- Amphicryptophytes — An ecological term used to designate a group of amphibious plants (cryptophytes) whose renewal organs, the wintering buds, are structurally protected underwater or underground, depending on seasonal fluctuations of the aquatic level; plants adapted to wetlands and floodplains, capable of functioning alternatively as helophytes (marsh plants) or as geophytes (terrestrial plants with underground bulbs/rhizomes).
