• To astonish — A rare term found in specific regional sub-dialects, used to describe the act of astonishing, bewildering, sweeping someone off their feet, or highly fascinating someone through an unexpected appearance or a visual trick; to spellbind (fig.). In a narrow and archaic sense, the word can represent a phonetic variant or a local contamination related to deluding through optical illusions or wordplay.
