#allotrophic
- Allotrophic — Relating to living organisms or cells: obtaining nutritional substances from external sources or from another organism; a heterotrophic organism that structurally depends on organic matter synthesized by producers to secure its energy and basic metabolism. In food chains, this element acts as a consumer, participating directly in the biomass flow within the ecosystem.
- Allotrophic — Relating to lakes, aquatic basins, or ecosystems: whose biological productivity and food web are structurally supplied and sustained primarily by organic matter and nutrients originating from the outside (allogenous sources, such as fallen foliage, runoff, or floods), rather than by local indigenous primary production of aquatic plants. In biology, it can also refer to a type of nutrition dependent on exogenous substances.
