#alkoxide

• Alcoholate — In chemistry, an organic compound obtained by replacing the hydrogen atom in the hydroxyl group of an alcohol with a metal atom (alkoxide). In pharmacy, the term designates a medicinal liquid preparation obtained by distilling alcohol over aromatic plant substances, used as an antiseptic or flavoring remedy.
• Alkoxide — An organic ionic compound formed by replacing the hydrogen atom in the hydroxyl group (-OH) of an alcohol with a metallic cation (typically sodium, potassium, or another alkali metal). Alkoxides are extremely strong bases and excellent nucleophiles, heavily used in organic synthesis as reagents or catalysts in substitution, elimination, or condensation reactions.
