- Alert Point — The international cartographic, military, or meteorological designation assigned to a strategic geographical point, cape, promontory, or early warning radar station, with the most famous structural reference linked to the Alert military base and weather station located on Ellesmere Island in Canada, considered the northernmost continuously inhabited settlement in the world. In aviation and navigation, the term can also designate a waypoint fixed on maps for reporting turbulence or flight restriction zones.
