- Addams — A proper surname of Anglo-Saxon origin, representing a patronymic variant derived from the biblical name Adam (son of Adam). In contemporary universal culture, the term is closely associated with 'The Addams Family', a famous fictional satire created by cartoonist Charles Addams, which humorously inverts the values of the ideal American family through macabre and gothic elements.
