- To hook loosely — To catch, anchor, or provisionally fix an object onto a support through repeated or superficial hooking; to slightly entangle threads or clothes in sharp items. In its reflexive form, it refers to a person or animal gripping awkwardly or insecurely onto a tall structure, trying to stay aloft.
