- Agathis alba — A specific species of large coniferous tree within the genus Agathis, partially synonymous with Agathis dammara, commonly known as the Indonesian kauri or white copal tree. It is highly valued economically for its massive production of a commercial resin called Manila copal, extracted via bark incisions, and for its yellowish-white timber, heavily sought after in luxury carpentry and lightweight shipbuilding.
- Agung — An active stratovolcano located on the island of Bali, Indonesia, representing the highest geographical point of the island, with an elevation exceeding three thousand meters. In local Indonesian culture and Balinese Hinduism, this mountain is considered deeply sacred, viewed as the central axis of the universe and the dwelling place of the gods, hosting the famous Pura Besakih temple complex on its slopes.
- Anoectochilus reinwardtii — A species of terrestrial orchid native to a wide range in Southeast Asia (including Indonesia, Malaysia, and Thailand), belonging to the 'jewel orchid' group. The plant is structurally distinguished by its ovate, dark purple or coppery-brown leaves decorated with a network of fine pink-gold or bronze veins, and by its erect floral spikes bearing small, white flowers with a well-developed labellum.
- Anoectochilus setaceus — The type species of the genus Anoectochilus, a rare terrestrial orchid native to the montane tropical rainforests of Java, Sumatra, and other Indonesian islands. The plant is structurally characterized by velvety dark olive-green or reddish-brown leaves decorated with finely branched gold or copper veins, and by a spectacular white floral labellum provided with long lateral fringes resembling stiff hairs (setaceous).
- Arafura — The Arafura Sea; a continental sea located in the western Pacific Ocean, bounded by the northern coast of Australia, the island of New Guinea, and the Indonesian Tanimbar and Kai islands. This sea covers a vast, shallow continental shelf and holds major geopolitical and ecological significance due to its rich fishing resources and outstanding marine biodiversity, while also connecting the Timor Sea to the Torres Strait.
- Archipelago — A group or chain of islands relatively close to one another, which often share the same geological origin (frequently volcanic or coralline) and are surrounded by the same marine or oceanic waters. Broadly, the term also designates the entire expanse of sea containing these islands, such as those in the Aegean Sea or Indonesia, representing a key concept in geopolitics and biogeography.
