#Hippocrates
- Abdera — Ancient Greek city in Thrace, famous in medical history as the birthplace of Democritus, the atomist philosopher who influenced early physiological theories, and visited by Hippocrates, who described local epidemic cases in his treatise 'On Epidemics'.
- Ars longa, vita brevis — A famous aphorism originally attributed to the ancient Greek physician Hippocrates and later translated into Latin, meaning literally 'Art is long, life is short'. Its primary meaning referred to the fact that mastering a craft or science (such as medicine) requires a lengthy time that far exceeds the brief span of human life; in modern aesthetics, the aphorism celebrates the immortality of artwork in contrast to the ephemerality of its creator.
