• Aviles — An important industrial and port city located in the autonomous community of Asturias in northern Spain, situated on the banks of the homonymous estuary near the Atlantic Ocean; it is historically recognized for its remarkably well-preserved medieval old town, as well as for its major role in Spanish steel and metallurgy during the 20th century. In modern cultural terms, the city hosts the Oscar Niemeyer International Cultural Centre, a masterpiece of contemporary architecture.
