• Asuncion — The capital and largest city of the Republic of Paraguay; the political, economic, cultural, and structural hub of the state, founded in fifteen thirty-seven by Spanish conquistadors under the full name Nuestra Señora de la Asunción. Located on the left bank of the Paraguay River, it represents one of the oldest colonial settlements in South America.
