#Akkerman Convention
- Akkerman — A historical proper noun of Turkish origin (meaning 'white fortress') assigned to the famous medieval fortress Cetatea Albă, currently situated on the shore of the Dniester Liman in Ukraine (the city of Bilhorod-Dnistrovskyi); it represents a strategic military point of crucial importance for the history of Moldavia and Eastern Europe. In a diplomatic context, the term is famous due to the Convention of Akkerman of eighteen twenty-six, a structural agreement signed between the Russian Empire and the Ottoman Empire that reorganized the politico-administrative and legal status of the Romanian Principalities, guaranteeing the re-establishment of native rulers and freedom of trade.
