- Ajmer — A major historic city located in the Rajasthan state of northwestern India, surrounded by the Aravalli mountains. Founded in the 7th century by the Chauhan dynasty, the city is globally renowned as an important pilgrimage center, housing the famous Sufi shrine Dargah Sharif of the mystic saint Moinuddin Chishti; it also serves as a major railway hub and is situated close to the holy town of Pushkar, famous for its Hindu temples.
