#Aiphanes

• Aiphanes — A taxonomic genus of perennial exotic plants within the Arecaceae (palm) family, native to the tropical regions of Central and South America, structurally characterized by the presence of long, sharp, black spines covering nearly all vegetative organs, including the trunk, leaf petioles, and inflorescences. These understory plant specimens play a crucial ecological role in humid forest habitats, producing globose fruits intensely colored in shades of red or pink, which serve as a major food source for local birds and small mammals.
• Aiphanes caryotaefolia — The scientific and taxonomic name (a historically validated synonym for Aiphanes horrida) of a specific species of tropical spiny palm, remarkable for its pinnate leaves whose leaflets feature jagged edges and truncated tips that structurally resemble the shape of Caryota leaves (the fishtail palm). This solitary exotic plant develops a slender trunk completely covered in dense rings of long thorns and produces spectacular clusters of bright red fruits, occasionally used in international horticulture as a collectible ornamental greenhouse plant.
