#4th century
- Apollinaris — The name borne by several historical Christian figures of Late Antiquity, the most prominent being Apollinaris the Younger, bishop of Laodicea (4th century), author of a controversial christological doctrine officially condemned as a heresy by the Church. This Syrian theologian and polymath sustained a radical theory regarding the union of natures in Christ, triggering intense dogmatic debates that shaped early patristics.
- Athanaric — King or supreme judge (iudex) of the Visigoths (Thervingi) in the 4th century, a formidable opponent of the Roman Empire and Emperor Valens. He is historically known for his violent persecutions against Christian Visigoths (such as Saint Sabbas the Goth) and for coordinating the retreat of his people before the Hunnic invasion, eventually seeking refuge in Constantinople, where he died in 381.
